Success Stories and Testimonials

'Hi, my name is Caroline Achieng. I am in class 6. I am very happy about the MARS Project. It means that i am able to run around and play whilst wearing the sanitary towel. I think it is a really good project and i hope we do it again next year!'

'Hello, my name is Shirley Achieng. I think the project is a wonderful thing. It has made me very happy. I like that when i am wearing the sanitary towel one cannot laugh at me because it does not show and i don't have to worry that i should not move in it. Thank you for this project.'

'Hi, my name is Violet Adhiambo. The MARS project has helped me in hiding my period so i don't feel so shy. It also means that my parents are not using money to buy the sanitary towels which makes them very happy too. I feel good that i can move around freely whilst wearing it.'

This is Class 5. They are aged between 10 and 12 and are the youngest to complete this workshop. Class 5 generally struggle the most with the workshops. Most have not started their period and so they know little about puberty and menstruation and struggle with the practical aspects having never done any stitching before. This group was particularly difficult as their understanding of english was also limited and so each sentence needed translating to ensure they fully understood. Having left the session not confident that the girls had really grasped the concept you can imagine our surprise when returning to the school 2 days later to see the class had finished ALL 6 of their towels!

This is Magdaline, she was the star pupil of the class! She was fantastic at the sewing and became the ambassador for this class showing other girls how to do it properly. Here she is holding her 6 completed towels!

'Hello, my name is Donna Adhiambo. The MARS project has been great because now when i am on my period and my parents don't have money I don't have to worry as i can use the reusable towels and come to school. I am in class 8 so i must come to school and do exams, this helps me do this.'
