Step 1

Distribute precut pieces of each material (enough for them to make 6 towels) to each girl. It is easier for the girls to use templates to draw around. These can be downloaded and cut onto cardboard. Be sure to cut plenty, this will speed up the class! Pass these around the class along with scissors. Ask the girls to draw around the templates and cut the material to make 1 towel. They use template 1 on the soft cotton only and template 2 on the PVC and toweling material. The towel is made of 4 layers: the PVC on the bottom, 2 layers of toweling material and the soft cotton on the top.

Step 2

Once the girls have cut all 4 pieces of material and assembled it as above the stitching can be taught. Here we found it was easiest to teach the stitching individually to begin with. Once majority of the class have been taught you will find that they will teach others around them. We used a simplified blanket stitch around the top and bottom ends and a running stitch along the wings.

Step 3

Once all the sewing is complete the only thing left to do is sew the metal popper on the wing. This allows the wings to fasten around the underwear securing the towel in place. The poppers are easy to stitch on, just like a button. The main thing here is to ensure the girls have aligned the 2 sides of the popper properly to ensure it closes properly.

Step 4

One towel finished!

Now to encourage the girls to make 5 more in order to receive the award!
